Last week sometime, a video that has been making the rounds on the internet caught my attention. It was a video statement by a woman claiming that there would be military check points for enforcing mandatory vaccinations of the H1N1 flu. In no way shape or form, do I have an opinion on the validly of this video statement. She offered no proof, but simply retold what she had been told or overheard. However, I did start digging. I wanted to see if I could find anything that might add or take away from her statement. What I found so far is interesting. At least to me.

The most significant thing I found was a date, October 15, 2009 to be specific. This was the date she said the vaccination check points would be starting. I found it very interesting that on the website Flu.gov, in the FAQ section, search parameter “vaccinations,” I came up with this same date. October 15, 2009. Two days later, the site had been “revamped” and a specific date was no longer showing, just the below statement:

“Planners should assume shipping of vaccine will begin mid-October, although there is a possibility that some vaccine will be available for shipping starting late September.“

Why it was necessary for them to take out the specific date and put in mid-October I do not know. You can make of that what you will, especially since I was brain dead and didn’t screen grab the page while I had the chance. (sigh)

Also in the handy dandy FAQ I found this regarding the quarantine procedures.

“How is isolation and quarantine enforced?

If a quarantinable disease is suspected or identified, the CDC may issue a Federal isolation or quarantine order. Public health authorities at the federal, state, local, and tribal levels may sometimes seek help from police or other law enforcement officers to enforce a public health order.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Coast Guard officers are authorized to help enforce federal quarantine orders. Breaking a federal quarantine order is punishable by fines and imprisonment. Federal law allows the conditional release of persons from quarantine if they comply with medical monitoring and surveillance. “

So, I think these two little things say a lot. One, the October 15th date is feasible and they say in black and white they may detain us against our civil liberties as American citizens.

Now, here are some more fun fact from the Flu.gov site that I think should be passed along. I mean this site is just a laugh a minute. I’ve found it so darn funny in fact, that it’s made me sick. Yeah… sick.

“What is the difference between isolation and quarantine?

Isolation and quarantine are public health practices used to stop or limit the spread of disease.

Isolation is used to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy. Isolation restricts the movement of ill persons to help stop the spread of certain diseases. For example, hospitals use isolation for patients with infectious tuberculosis.

Quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms. Quarantine can also help limit the spread of communicable disease.

Isolation and quarantine are used to protect the public by preventing exposure to infected persons or to persons who may be infected.“

“Who has the authority to enforce isolation and quarantine?

The Federal government derives its authority for isolation and quarantine from the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Under section 361 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S. Code § 264), the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services is authorized to take measures to prevent the entry and spread of communicable diseases from foreign countries into the United States and between states.

The authority for carrying out these functions on a daily basis has been delegated to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Under 42 Code of Federal Regulations parts 70 and 71, CDC is authorized to detain, medically examine, and release persons arriving into the United States and traveling between states who are suspected of carrying these communicable diseases. As part of its federal authority, CDC routinely monitors persons arriving at U.S. land border crossings and passengers and crew arriving at U.S. ports of entry for signs or symptoms of communicable diseases.

When alerted about an ill passenger or crew member by the pilot of a plane or captain of a ship, CDC may detain passengers and crew as necessary to investigate whether the cause of the illness on board is a communicable disease.“

Please note that the above mentioned “authority” only states that the law be used to prevent entry into the U.S. Nowhere does it state that American citizens can be treated thus. However, that executive order sure makes things tidy. I would be interested to know when it was amended to include “Flu that can cause a pandemic,” since I certainly never heard that phrase before this year. However, as my time is short at the moment, I will have to put that on my research list for later.

Basically, the government and the states have given themselves permission to strip our civil liberties away in the event of a pandemic. A pandemic has already been declared, so now all that remains to be seen is how far out on the limb the government will go towards taking those liberties away. It’s certainly a terrifying thought that I could be held at gun point and told take this shot or go to this quarantine area. Especially since I forfeit any rights and can face imprisonment for refusing anything they would deem medically necessary. I mean, if they say we need a micro chip implanted so they can monitor our vitals and it’s medically necessary, they can make me do it. Technically in a state of “pandemic,” if I refuse I can be forced according to my state’s national emergency pandemic plan.

I strongly suggest that everyone reads their state’s plan for the pandemic. I found many states, in fact all of them that I read, seem to think that force is ok as long as they think it’s for your own good. Gee… that sure gives me such a warm and fuzzy feeling. The land of the free has become the land of the “you wish” you were free.
